Chemring Australia Receives Funding Support for the JSF Program

Chemring Australia has been granted $500 000 from the Geelong Investment and Innovation Fund (GIIF) to assist with a 10 million expansion to boost its capacity to supply air launched countermeasures and flares for the Joint Strike Fighter (next generation aircraft). The grant was announced by the Parliamentary Secretary for Innovation and Industry, Richard Marles, Member for Lara, John Eren and Ford Australia president, Marin Burela. The upgrade is said to be a significant step of the Australian industry in the JSF program.

The latest expansion means Chemring Australia will have a $30 million investment in its Stacey’s Rd plant. The future facility will be very automated and the employees involved will work in a broad range of skill sets, ranging from semi skilled production workers through to trades, engineers and PHD chemists.

It is estimated that the first stage will generate 40 jobs with 30 to 35 of those people currently employed and a further 60 jobs in the long term. Chemring Australia has subsequently been working with the new Joint Strike Fighter program and is well positioned to be able to manufacture countermeasures for that program. The investment by Chemring is significant in that it provides employment growth both for Chemring Australia and supply chain partners in a strategically important industry for Victoria and Australia.
