National Marine Authorities

AMSA is responsible, on behalf of the Commonwealth Government, for the regulation and safety oversight of Australia's shipping fleet and management of Australia's international maritime obligations. AMSA is funded largely through levies on the shipping industry.

The National Marine Safety Committee (NMSC) is an Intergovernmental Committee established in 1997 by COAG to achieve uniform marine safety legislation and practices throughout Australia. The NMSC consults widely with industry and invites industry members to sit on a range of reference, advisory and professional panels.
